Hello & Congratulations!
I’m Marcia, and I can’t wait to tend to you! To share my wisdom, to hear your stories and to walk beside you as you journey through pregnancy, birth and becoming a mother.
Who am I? I am a mother of four beautiful children aged 17-25 and a wife of a wheatbelt farmer who all keep me grounded and light my days with purpose and belonging. I have been brought up and lived in the wheatbelt my whole life with a large close and extended family. My love and interest in babies and mothering have been strong from my earliest days. As I have grown and raised my children and worked beside my family on the farm, as well as being active within the community my interest has also extended to having a great interest in protecting and nurturing people’s mental health.
I completed my face-to-face training and certification with ‘Doula Training Academy’ and continue to learn and grow with the amazing network of support from Vicki Hobbs and her academy. Having completed a degree in Occupational Therapy back in 1999, my return to learning has been joyful and much more purposeful as I follow what truly makes my heart sing!
This new chapter has aligned at a time and space that allows me to follow my instincts as my own children have gained their own independence. Whilst I love babies, what I love most is ‘holding space’ with women in the wheatbelt and caring for their mental and emotional health. I have experienced hormonal driven anxiety and mental health challenges myself, and as I have managed this over the years, it has naturally brought young women in times of mental health difficulties to seek me out and I have mentored and guided them.
As your doula, while I will nurture and provide a grounding presence through your pregnancy and birth, my focus will be on protecting your postpartum health or ‘fourth trimester’ as you birth into the role as a mother. The journey may be messy, unpredictable or not what you envisioned it to be! It may be everything and more you ever dreamed of and that is totally okay – feeling both wonder and overwhelm can exist together and if you need more than my support, I will guide you to the professionals who can provide this. This may also include support for breastfeeding, pelvic health or any other concerns that your fourth trimester may bring.
I would love to prepare you with informed and evidence-based knowledge. I would be honoured to nurture you with nourishing food in your postpartum and hands on help as required. I will assist you to set boundaries and avoid comparisons with others as you heal at your own pace. I will provide you with useful techniques and strategies for this healing on all levels. Finally, I will be a constant ear for yourself and your partner so that you never feel alone. I can’t control or predict how your journey will unfold, but I can control how I care for you and your family.
