Hi there,
My name is Amada Kusel, and I am a Doula.
I’m originally from the USA but have lived in Perth since 2012.
I’m married to a South African Aussie, and we have a 1-year-old little boy.
For the last 10+ years, I have been a doula for women in less resourced nations, who face crises of life and death every time they give birth, sometimes because of simple things like no electricity or running water. Beyond the resource crisis, there is a crisis of dignity in their care and a lack of health education that often leaves them fearful and uncertain.
I was challenged and it was a privilege to learn about birth from these women, who sometimes didn’t even speak my language. What I learned from them was that no matter who you are or where you’re from, every woman deserves to feel safe, supported, encouraged, and confident as she becomes a mother, whether it’s for the first time or seventh.
I saw firsthand how having a doula lessened fear and therefore pain, leading to faster labours, less interventions, and better outcomes.
Women were created to give birth, but sometimes they just need someone to guard the space for them to be able to do what they are already capable of – and I believe that’s where a doula comes in.
I’m overjoyed to bring what I have learned about being a warm, humble, and consistent space for women to lean on during birth to the Perth CBD and surrounds.
As your doula I provide antenatal visits to map out your birth, chat through fears, and give you resources to make confident decisions. During your birth, I provide emotional, mental, physical and spiritual support, holding space in whatever way you need. And after birth I visit to debrief, encourage, answer questions, and champion you as a mother.
If you’re keen to have me on your birth team, I would love to chat with you – feel free to reach out to me via my website below.
