Hi there! I’m Jasmine and I’m the smiling face behind Encircled Birth Services, operating out of the eastern suburbs of Boorloo / Perth.
I’m a Hypnobirthing mum of one, an interior designer in a past life, a sessional academic in design in this one and I am currently completing my certification as a birth and postpartum doula. When I’m not doing the doula thing, I can be found pounding the pavement with the pram in one hand and a strong coffee in the other, scoping out the best parks for picnicking in, stealing solo time for peaceful painting or embroidery, or baking away whilst trying to keep my busybody son from changing the dials on the oven.
I was born at home in the early 90s and four years later, witnessed the birth of my brother in our lounge room. I might have been young, but this was without a doubt a formative experience – the birth nerd switch was flipped! However, I didn’t fully grasp the depths of the motherhood metamorphosis and just how important a concrete support network is until I became a parent myself in June 2021.
I was fortunate to have a textbook pregnancy that resulted in a calm, unmedicated labour and birth in a pool at home. It was everything I’d hoped for and more. Surrounded by a team whose values and beliefs aligned with my own, I felt safe, informed and in control. That is, until the next morning when I realised, I actually had no idea what to do with my beautiful baby, Luca.
Postpartum was Rough with a capital R. Between Luca being hospitalised for failure to thrive at 2 weeks of age, me pumping and topping up every 2-3 hours around the clock for 2 months until we fully established breastfeeding, and trying to convince myself that my now – unrecognisable world would one day return to its axis again, I was a sleep-deprived sobbing mess for a good while there.
I want other mothers to feel how I did during pregnancy and birth, and I don’t want them to feel how I did after. This is inarguably one of the most transformative and unpredictable phases you’ll encounter, and apprehension is to be expected.
If you’re seeking support from someone who is intensely spiritual, I would be the first to admit that’s not me. However, if you’re searching for somebody who is a critical thinker, a fervent advocate for women’s rights (particularly in the birth room) and has a deep appreciation for the phenomenal things the female body is capable of, I might just be the doula you’re looking for.
If you choose to have me along for the ride, I can be your braintrust through bump, birth and beyond. By providing you with the latest evidence-based research and effective, easy-to-implement techniques, we will work together to remove any anxiety you may be feeling about life before, during and after birth. We will shape an experience that connects you to your power and puts you in the driver’s seat, regardless of your circumstances; one that you can approach and reflect on with pride and warmth.
I will encircle you as you step into this next phase, allowing you to welcome both your baby and the emerging version of yourself with wide open arms, and without trepidation.
My name is Jasmine Jones, and I am an emerging doula training at the Doula Training Academy. If you would like more information about my doula services, please contact me:
