My name is Josi Mear, and I am the owner of Nurtured by Josi.
I was born and raised in Germany and met the man of my dreams on my “gap year” in Australia nearly 12 years ago.
We live in Brisbane with our four children aged 9, 8,8 (twins!) and 4. When I am not homeschooling my kids, I love baking and cooking, gardening and learning all about natural and alternative remedies and lifestyle so I can support my family holistically.
Nearly five years ago when I fell pregnant with our surprise baby number four, I decided to absolutely do everything to avoid a third c-section, which wasn’t really that well received by my closest public hospital.
However, with the right support team (private midwife) and a lot of preparation with educating myself, fear releases and body work, I had a homebirth like hospital birth, which was to this day, my greatest achievement and the best day of my life.
One of the key elements to me feeling safe, supported and full of confidence was the continuity of care and encouragement I received from my midwife and that I came mentally to a place of peace of birthing in a hospital and that this was the safest place for me to be at this point in time.
With this experience a seed was planted that slowly grew over the last few years into a really strong desire to support women on their journey into motherhood as every woman should have access to continuity of care and support during this crucial time. This is why I commenced my studies with Vicki Hobbs.
I believe that all women have the right to choose, be educated with evidence – based information, and be supported in their decisions with respect and dignity, because how a woman is treated and feels supported matters and affects her overall wellbeing.
My personal experiences birthing within the (public) hospital system has also made me very sensitive to the fact that birthing in such an environment can make women feel less safe, so I am very focused on helping you define and set boundaries, make the environment work for you rather than against you, help you to release fears that hinder you moving on and make sure you feel 100% supported no matter what your birthing journey brings.
Whether this is your first or consecutive pregnancy and you are planning for a better birth, my aim is to support you in a holistic way that all your wants and needs are met and that you are feeling safe.
I am available for home births and hospital births in Brisbane, Ipswich, Logan and Northern Gold Coast, as well as offering virtual doula support.
My name is Josi Mear, and I am a doula who has completed extensive training at the Doula Training Academy with Vicki Hobbs. If you would like to talk more about how I can support you, please contact me:
