Hi there. My name is Megan and I am a student Doula at the Doula Training Academy.
I have been married to a fab guy for 18 years and am Mum to four determined and adorable tiny humans.
My role is to support you and your partner through this journey of pregnancy, birth and beyond. I will also advocate for you both, ensuring that you are informed of your choices and I will encourage the decisions you make as I believe that it is your birth, your way.
I have always seen my role in birth as one of collaboration. Women have supported women for centuries in birth and I see that continuing. I was first interested in birth when I was 14. My mum was pregnant with my sister and I was fascinated in the changes that were occurring. I was front and centre (well, on my mum’s left side but you get it!!!!) when my sister was born and I was in love!!! Not just with this amazing human that appeared but at this remarkable feat that my mum had achieved. WOW!!!!
When I became pregnant with our first child, I thought I had all the answers – how wrong I was. What started as a “perfect” birth descended into birth trauma, postnatal depression and the possibility that our gorgeous girl would be an only child. I became informed, educating myself on birth options and becoming my own advocate and strongest supporter. I also became a Nurse with the aim of entering Midwifery, again to advocate for and support women like myself. The Maternity Machine chewed me up and spat me out and I became entirely disillusioned with the system.
So here I am, stronger for what I have seen and been through and your loudest and greatest advocate. I have birthed every which way and have seen all types of births and would love to support you to achieve the birth you want.
